Efforts are underway to try to boost the economies of parts of Anglesey that don’t benefit from being close to the A55. Northern Anglesey was dealt a major economic blow in January after Hitachi announced it was halting the Wylfa Newydd development due to the project’s rising costs and the inability to find the necessary capital. Further bad news came shortly thereafter when German firm, Rehau announced the closure of its Amlwch factory, leading to the loss of around 100 jobs. But in a bid to stem the flow of economic blows for the area, the council executive rubber-stamp the North Anglesey Economic Regeneration Plan. The plan has already received a timely boost thanks to a £495,000 pledge from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
