Hitachi said it is “coordinating with other parties” over the future of Wylfa as hopes grow that another consortium will take on the £16bn project. North Wales Live revealed in September that American energy firm Westinghouse were interested in the site following the withdrawal of Hitachi from the development. This saw a planning decision on Wylfa Newydd deferred until New Year’s Eve so that talks could continue and it was later reported Westinghouse could join a wider US consortium. Horizon said on Tuesday that there were “several parties” interested but funding remained the crux of the matter. Now Hitachi has told North Wales Live it was “continuing to coordinate with other parties” on the future of the site.
