Council officers have been accused of “putting their heads in the sand” amid calls to scrap a plan to build thousands of new homes until the fate of Wylfa Newydd is better known. The Joint Local Development Plan (JLDP) outlines where up to 7,184 new homes should be built across Gwynedd and Anglesey up to 2026. It was ratified separately by both authorities in 2017, when the multi-billion nuclear plant was still expected to go ahead. Councillors on both sides of the Menai Strait backed the plan despite concerns it would lead to a drop in the number of Welsh speakers in both counties.
