More people are switching their energy supplier this year than before, confounding widespread predictions that the price cap would stifle competition. By the end of last month more than 5.8 million people had switched electricity provider, equalling the number of switches in all of 2018, Energy UK, the trade association for the energy industry, said. November saw more than half a million customers switch, an increase of 1.2 per cent on the same period last year. The rise comes despite the imposition of the government’s price cap on standard tariffs at the start of this year.
