US President Joseph Biden yesterday announced a USD2 trillion jobs, infrastructure and clean energy plan to reshape the country’s economy. Among the proposed investments to tackle climate change, the American Jobs Plan calls for funding for the development of advanced nuclear reactors and for a clean electricity standard to leverage and incentivise more efficient use of the USA’s existing fleet of reactors.

Energy leaders announced a new partnership for the development of the country’s first advanced nuclear reactor, right here in the Tri-Cities. Energy Northwest, Grant County Public Utility District (PUD) and X-energy LLC are working together to build a Xe-100 advanced nuclear power plant north of Richland at an existing Energy Northwest site. Through the TRi Energy Partnership, energy leaders said this new project will create new jobs and establish a foundation for new renewable energy projects to help reach Washington’s goal for 100% carbon-free electricity by 2045.
