Renewable energy enjoyed a bumper year in the US in 2017, meeting 18 per cent of US electricity demand and doubling renewables share of the power mix compared to a decade ago. According to new data released today by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), renewable generation soared by 14 per cent in 2017 to hit 717TWh, thanks to a rebound in hydro power and the first full year of operation from the flurry of major wind and solar projects completed in 2016. It means renewables now contribute almost as much power as nuclear in the US electricity mix, BNEF noted.
