A tidal energy project is likely to collapse without further investment, a council leader has said. Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre (PTEC) is hoping to install up to 60 sea bed turbines south of the Isle of Wight. Councillors have upheld a decision to relax conditions on the authority’s existing £1m loan to the company. Isle of Wight Council leader Dave Stewart said the move would give PTEC a “chance of success” by allowing it to attract outside investors.
