A Scottish built tidal energy turbine has been successfully deployed in Japanese waters. The AR500 kit was designed, manufactured and assembled by Simec Atlantis Energy. The equipment is generating electricity as part of a pilot project in the straits of Naru Island, part of Japan’s Goto island chain. Shares in Simec Atlantis Energy rose by just over a penny, or 5.9 per cent, to 19¾p. The Aim-listed Atlantis operates the Meygen tidal energy scheme off the north of Scotland as well as having interests in hydro and biomass.
