On Wednesday afternoon, the Swedish parliament narrowly voted down the proposal, by 173 to 174, to force state-owned energy company Vattenfall AB to stop its closure of two nuclear reactors, Ringhals 1 and 2. One of the Ringhals reactors was already closed down last year and the other one is planned for closure later this year. Neither of the two reactors has the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority’s permission to operate beyond 2020.
