Sol beer is set to live up to its name, after brewer Heineken announced the South Holland brewery that supplies the drink to dozens of countries around the world is now powered entirely by onsite solar energy. Beer drinkers in the UK, Australia, South Africa, and Germany can now purchase Sol beer brewed with solar energy, after more than 9,000 panels were switched on at the Netherlands brewery that supplies the drink to more than 50 markets, Heineken announced today.

A £30 million renewable energy park has been given the go-ahead in North East Lincolnshire. The 50MW solar farm and battery storage facility is being brought forward by Engie on 47 hectares of land straddling the A180, to the south east of Immingham. The energy and services giant is to own and operate what has been referred to as the North East Lincolnshire Energy Park. Potential for further phases has also been identified, with district supply as well as grid connection as possibility.

Solar panel installations by homes and power companies have virtually ground to a halt after a series of subsidy cuts, latest Government figures show. The UK’s solar power capacity increased by just 1.5 per cent to 13,500 megawatts in the past year – representing about 5 per cent of the country’s total electricity generation capacity. This is the third consecutive year of very low installation following a series of cuts in financial support that ended with home panel subsidies being scrapped altogether in April last year.
