Energy supplier Bulb has joined the call to scrap VAT on green products, including solar panels, to help households go green. In new data released by the company, it stated that getting rid of VAT on products including energy efficient household goods, EVs and solar could save households in the UK around £5,500. For example, the average cost of solar panels is £7,500 with the current VAT level set at 5%. By getting rid of the tax – which the government is now able to do since the UK left the EU – the cost could be reduced by £357. The same is true for technologies like heat pumps, with the average cost at £10,000 and VAT at 5%, by scrapping it households could save £476. And the average cost of an EV is £27,100 with VAT at 20%, as such the cost could come down by £4,517 if VAT was removed.
