A huge solar “carport” which can produce enough energy to power a small village has been unveiled in Perth. The facility at the headquarters of financial services giant Aviva will allow the company to go off grid for up to five hours each day. Covering 342 parking bays, the Scottish Government-backed project is now Britain’s largest combined solar carport and battery facility. It has been unveiled ahead of COP26, next year’s United Nations Climate Change Conference, and comes as new YouGov research finds that 65% of people living in Scotland do not do enough to help tackle climate change. The same survey suggested 64% said they would look more favourably on firms investing in eco-friendly initiatives.
