Justin Rowlett has been to Sizewell B to see how Britain’s electricity companies are making sure the light stay on. It provides electricity to more than 2 million British homes. Here on the Suffolk coast Sizewell says it started putting in place its pandemic plan over 2 months ago before the first coronavirus cases were even reported. We’ve effectively got half of the normal staff compliment here at the moment. What happens if the power station can’t get supplies? The early part of our plan was to build up our commodities and spares, so we are ready for this. We don’t need to refuel this power station until 2021.
