A pay dispute at the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant in Cumbria widened yesterday, when the Unite union said its 1,100 members there have voted to strike. Strike action is already being taken by 2,000 GMB members at the plant. The dispute centres on management’s unilateral decision to impose a 1.5 per cent pay award last month, backdated to April 1. Unite says it suspects the government is involved in the dispute behind the scenes.
