Thousands of Sellafield workers are to strike later this month. Members of GMB, the union for nuclear workers, announced the strike after a dispute over pay. The company are accused of ignoring repeated requests for further talks and instead imposed a below-inflation pay offer of just 1.5%.

THOUSANDS of workers at Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant in Cumbria are to strike over pay, their union announced yesterday. GMB, with 3,000 members at Sellafield, said 76 per cent had voted to walk out. Unite, which has 2,000 members there, is also balloting on strikes. GMB accused Sellafield Ltd, owned by the government’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, of refusing to negotiate after imposing a below-inflation pay rise of 1.5 per cent.
