Brighton area has 9400 Solar Installations – Govt figures. Recent figures show that the BN postcode area has been kicking out solar PV capacity. More than 9435 buildings across the BN area now have solar. That’s around 36MW of clean solar power Brighton Energy Coop owns 3.3% of our region’s solar capacity (with 1.35MW) – our new projects take us over the 4% mark!

Community energy organisation Brighton Energy Coop (BEC) completed a hat-trick of new commercial rooftop solar installs last month. The three projects, completed on industrial buildings in West Sussex, have a combined generation capacity of 240kWp and take BEC’s total portfolio to 1.6MW. The systems were funded using BEC’s membership model. A total of 40 people helped fund the £220,000 cost of the three installations by becoming members of the co-op, and they will receive annual returns of 5% on their investment.

Solar Trade Association (STA) Scotland has secured easier grid access for businesses’ and housing developments’ solar power installations. The trade body lobbied network operator Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN), which agreed to relax restrictions after assessing evidence on the modest impact most rooftop solar projects have on energy networks. The decision is expected to have a significant impact on the economics and attractiveness of installing solar panels and will mean most installations of up to 200kW in size will find it easier and cheaper to connect to the Scottish grid.
