UK-based firm AqvaFloat has announced the completion of its new Cumbria factory, where it plans to begin production of “game-changing” floating systems for solar farms across the UK and Europe. The AqvaFloat system is based on a floating docking system that has been in production for 40 years, but which has been adapted to enable solar farms to be situated on water. Now fully commissioned, the new factory in Cumbria is expected to initially produce around 12MW of solar systems a year with a view to ramping up capacity in the future. The company also has plans to maximise the use of recycled plastic to bring costs down further, it said.

A solar carport specialist is to install one of its clean energy systems at Bentley Motors’ manufacturing headquarters. Cambridge-based FlexiSolar has announced it has started building a large-scale commercial carport at the luxury car brand’s factory in Cheshire. The project, which is due to be finished in September this year, will see the firm install 10,000 solar panels with a total capacity of 2.7MW in the form of a shelter covering approximately 1,378 car parking spaces.

Construction starts on 2.7MW Bentley solar carport. Guinness Asset Management – renowned funders of C&I solar projects in the UK – are financing the project under a power purchase agreement with Bentley Motors. The carport will take Bentley’s on-site solar capacity to 7.7MW having also installed 5MW of rooftop solar in 2013. It remains one of the country’s largest commercial solar rooftop installs.
