WORKERS at a BiFab yard in Lewis have been hit with redundancy notices just six months after the site was reopened. The Arnish fabrication yard had been brought back into use in March to make parts for an offshore windfarm. More than 80 jobs were expected to be created by the contract and around 60 people are said to be working at the site. But workers have now been served with six-week redundancy notices.

Formosa 1, Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, has completed the installation of all twenty 6 MW wind turbines for phase 2 of the project. The installation work was carried out by three major subcontractors, including JDN for foundation and cable installation; Siemens Gamesa for wind turbine installation, operation and maintenance; and Fortune Electric for onshore electrical systems. More than 100 experts participated in the Formosa 1 Phase 2 project team and construction team. The offshore construction of Formosa 1 Phase 2 started in May 2019, and the first wind turbine was hoisted into position on 24 July. The Formosa 1 project team had to overcome challenges caused by four typhoons and other weather impacts however, was able to complete all turbine installation work in one week.
