Renewable power has grown at a record pace during 2020, with wind and solar avoiding the sharp downturn in fortunes experienced by the oil, gas and coal sectors. New analysis from the International Energy Agency (IEA) reveals 90 per cent of new power additions to the global grid this year will be renewable energy, compared to gas and coal contributing just 10 per cent. Green electricity is now on track to overtake coal as the largest source of electricity worldwide by 2025, the agency said. By that point, renewables will be providing one third of the world’s electricity needs, it predicted.
