“Flickering light” and “loud noise” were but some of the reasons residents reacted with “public outcry” at the thought of five towering wind turbines being installed at the edge of their village. But opinions have changed since then, and many of those who now live around Lindhurst Wind Farm in villages such as Rainworth and Blidworth think the wind turbines “add interest to the landscape”. The wind farm installed in 2010 on Blidworth Lane is operated by Innogy Renewables and capable of powering 5,500 average UK homes.

A Glasgow-based company has won a £67 million contract for a renewable energy development in southwestern Scotland. RJ McLeod said that about 150 jobs would be supported at the peak of construction of the South Kyle wind farm. The company will provide civil engineering, roads, turbine foundations, cables and other infrastructure for the project. It said that it hoped work could start next month, with the site expected to go into operation in 2023.
