Huge plans to pump £37m into offshore wind farms and other green projects in the North East have been signed off – despite council leaders being unable to meet because of the coronavirus outbreak. The giant investment project should have been agreed by the North of Tyne Combined Authority’s cabinet on Tuesday, but were thrown into doubt when the meeting was cancelled amid new lockdown measures to slow the spread of Covid-19. However, it has now been confirmed that the cash boost will still go ahead on schedule. It is hoped that the plans will create thousands of new jobs and help the region’s economy recover from the impact of the coronavirus crisis.
