Next Monday, January 13, is the day when we will learn whether a government-backed climate change abatement scheme will trigger a major administrative change, that could eventually lead to the break-up of the United Kingdom. This is the day that the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Julian Smith, has set as the deadline for the Northern Ireland Assembly to agree to reassemble. All this kerfuffle has been triggered initially by that modest and obscure subsidy scheme, designed entirely to promote renewable energy.
