Peter Banks Video: Taking a look at how the Nuclear Industry considers its work at Hinkley Point C (HPC) ‘Essential’, submitting the Sizewell C (SZC) Development Consent Order (DCO) ‘Urgent’ and proceeding with the Bradwell B (BRB) Pre-Application without full physical, public interaction whilst everyone else is under the Coronavirus restrictions. When the public exhibition events commenced the closing date to respond to the consultation was the 27th May 2020. The first event to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus was the one on Mersea, then a few days later all the remaining events were abandoned. Initially the closing date remained at the 27th, then a concession to extend that date was made to July 1st 2020 but without any suggestion the public events would be re-staged. How can it possibly be so ‘Essential’ or ‘Critical’ to proceed apace at this time, much better to abandon the SZC DCO and BRB consultation deadline until the public can take part in person physically? Meanwhile the HPC work force run the gauntlet despite the sad loss of one colleague and others contracting the virus.
