Teesside will have to wait until spring or summer next year to find out the fate of plans to store nuclear waste at Port Clarence. Waste specialists Augean applied to the Environment Agency to dispose of low level nuclear material at its site off Huntsman Drive in 2019, sparking concern from politicians across the spectrum. But now the Environment Agency has told the Local Democracy Reporting Service a decision won’t come until 2022 – with it likely to be announced in either spring or summer. It’s been more than a year since a consultation on the push for a permit received a mammoth 2,329 responses. Only 13 of the total were in support of the application.
