Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) will submit a proposal to participate in the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan on May 31. Earlier, KHNP submitted a letter of intent to participate in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for two nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan on March 15 after receiving a request for participation from KNPP, the client of the project, in February. This time, KHNP submitted a proposal for the nuclear power plant project, a part of the procedure to evaluate contractors’ building capabilities such as technological power and financial conditions prior to selecting a preferred bidder. The participants in the tender reportedly included Rosatom of Russia, CNNC of China, NuScale Power of the United States and EDF-Mitsubishi, a French-Japanese consortium. A preferred bidder is likely to be announced in September based on the evaluation of the proposals from the bidders.
