Tool aims to drive up standards for clean energy firms to help support workers and communities adversely affected by the burgeoning clean energy transition. Wind, wave and tidal power trade body RenewableUK has launched a tool designed to help its member companies deliver both strong environmental and social standards as demand for clean energy snowballs over the coming decades. Just Transition Tracker unveiled today aims to highlight renewable energy firms which have embraced best practice on a host of environmental and ethical measures, in a bid to encourage others to follow suit. A series of supply chain and employment benchmarks for industry players to work towards are also being developed as part of the initiative. As the transition away from carbon intensive energy sources such as coal, gas and oil and towards greener alternatives gathers pace, there is increasing onus on policymakers and energy firms to ensure retraining, investment and other support measures are put in place for affected workers and communities.
