Micheál Martin and Leo Varadkar have agreed a response to the Green Party’s concerns about entering coalition, raising their hopes that talks can begin on Thursday. Eamon Ryan, the Green Party leader, is expected to receive the letter today and spend tomorrow discussing it with colleagues. Some of his lieutenants may dislike being pressured into talks so quickly. A source close to the grand coalition, which is trying to hasten the Greens to make a decision, said last night: “A letter is being prepared in response to the Green Party leader,” adding: “We then hope a meeting will be arranged after that in midweek”.
