Dublin’s four councils have been advised to provide charging infrastructure for a third fewer electric vehicles (EVs) than would be needed to meet the government target of 936,000 such vehicles on the road by 2030. A draft charging strategy prepared for the local authorities by Element Energy, a private consultancy, said there were “question marks over how achievable [the government] scenario is”. It recommended focusing on “realistic uptake” of 140,000 EVs in the capital by 2030, rather than the 220,000 expected under the government plan.
