Unless climate change is properly addressed in today’s budget, Ireland “won’t have an economy to save” in the future, an activist has said. Environmental groups yesterday marched through the capital to the gates of the Dail to protest against seabed habitat destruction and called on the government to strengthen marine protections. Protesters from groups such as Extinction Rebellion, Sea Change and the Irish Wildlife Trust staged a “bycatch parade of the dead” through the city. The protesters, dressed in fish masks and black-and-white costumes, called for an end to the practices of bottom trawling and by-catch.
