Formal talks on coalition between the Green Party and the Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael alliance could get underway as early as next week. Leo Varadkar, the taoiseach, said he and Micheál Martin had received a letter with 17 questions from the environmental bloc, which holds 12 seats and would be crucial to any grand coalition. “I think they’re reasonable and relevant questions,” Mr Varadkar said yesterday. The Green Party is seeking a commitment to reduce emissions by 7 per cent per year. It also wants 20 per cent of the transport budget allocated to cycling and walking, investment in green energy and a retrofit programme.
