Leo Varadkar and Micheál Martin will attempt to use the €23 billion reversal in the national finances this year to convince the Green Party to do its duty to the country. The environmental party is split on the prospect of joining the proposed Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil grand coalition. Sources indicated that moral pressure will be heaped on leader Eamon Ryan, who is personally inclined towards participation in government. The two traditional parties of government were encouraged that another Green Party meeting yesterday which resulted in no new demands for figures, commitments or clarifications as a sign that it might be becoming more pliable.
