Hinkley Point: Campaign group calls for Welsh Government assessment. A GROUP formed to oppose the dumping of contaminated sediment in Cardiff Bay by Hinkley Point nuclear power station in Somerset has launched a petition to the Senedd. Geiger Bay – a group of scientists and other experts – is calling on the Senedd to invoke the Environmental (Wales) Act 2016 to stop the project going ahead without a thorough safety assessment. The 2020 campaign builds on the 2018 move to overturn the licence granted to EDF Energy – the company operating Hinkley Point – to dump up to 300,000 tons of contaminated mud from Somerset onto the Cardiff Grounds.
