Marine Biologist Tim Deere Jones today handed in a Petition calling on a Halt to Plans to Dump Hinkley Point Radioactive Mud into the Sea near Cardiff Bay. It was presented to the Chair of the Petitions Committee to the Committee Chair David Rowlands AM on the steps of the Senedd in Cardiff Bay. Simon Thomas AM and Neil McEvoy AM (not pictured) were also present at the presentation and spoke to the gathering. Both AMs were supportive and suggested that following consideration by the Petitions Committee, a full debate will probably be held by the Assembly itself in the near future. EDF Energy is planning to dump 300,000 tonnes of mud contaminated by waste from nuclear power plants into the sea off Cardiff Bay. In preparation for the brand new Hinkley Point C power station, EDF Energy is planning on dredging mud from the now abandoned sites at Hinkley Point A and B and dumping it off the bay.
