THE construction of Hinkley Point C nuclear power station has been described as the ‘biggest boost to the economy of the area for a generation’. Members of Somerset County Council’s Scrutiny Committee for Place recently visited the site of the new nuclear power station construction. And Cllr Ann Bown, who represents Bridgwater West and is vice chair of SCC’s Scrutiny Committee, Place, said: “Of course we know about the development of the new nuclear power station on our doorstep, but it isn’t until you actually set foot on the site you get a real feel for the scale of it all and how much progress is being made.

Hanson Cement (HeidelbergCement group) has agreed a new contract with GB Railfreight for seven years. The new deal will provide freight services for bulk cement from the Ketton works in Rutland, Lancashire, to terminals at London King’s Cross, Avonmouth in Bristol and Mossend in Glasgow. GB freight will operate nine trains a week for cement deliveries in the UK for Hanson Cement which are in part for the construction of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station.
