A Second World War explosive found near a Somerset nuclear power station has been safely detonated. Watchet Coastguard located a 250 pound device in the sea two miles off the Hinkley Point C site in the early hours of Friday (August 30). The coastguard created a temporary exclusion zone and warned mariners to avoid being within 1,000 metres of the ordnance. But today (September 4) the coastguard Tweeted to say the Royal Navy had carried out a controlled explosion and was lifting the warning.
