The enormous tunnels being built under the sea just 20 miles from Wales to cool a nuclear power plant. Building work on massive tunnels beneath the Bristol Channel seabed has begun. The three tunnels will form part of the cooling system for the Hinkley Point C nuclear plant, currently under construction in Somerset. Once completed, the tunnels are designed to transfer 120,000 litres of water per second to the site. Giant boring machines will excavate more than 11 tonnes of rock per minute to create the tunnels, and 38,000 concrete segments will support them.
