Efforts to fix Watchet’s damaged harbour will proceed without any financial help from either the Hinkley Point C construction or the Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA). The ‘splash point’ on the harbour’s northern wall partially collapsed before Christmas and suffered further damage in February at the hands of Storm Ciara. Somerset West and Taunton Council has been undertaking emergency repairs – which it confirmed in late-March could end up costing more than £1M by the time they are completed. The council has now clarified it will have to entirely fund these repairs itself – though it could consider crowdfunding as a retrospective measure.
