A major conference held in the South West/Somerset will give companies vital insight into doing business in the nuclear sector in both the UK and overseas. The Nuclear South West Showcase and Conference ‘#NSW19’ will shine a light on current and future opportunities in new build, decommissioning, defence and new technologies. Industry leaders will give updates on opportunities at the two-day conference and showcase while attendees will also have the opportunity to find out more about how the region is driving innovation within the sector. Opportunities include the UK’s first new-build in a generation, Hinkley Point C, four sites being decommissioned, and the development of new technologies for small modular reactors.

Security obviously would be paramount at any major construction site, but particularly so at one with massive energy, power grid and historic implications. Such is the case at Hinkley Point C, the first new nuclear power station being built in the UK for a generation. Some 2,500 to 5,600 workers–depending on the day and the project–are laboring to complete the $25 billion, 3,200-MW power plant over the next decade. Protecting against potential dangers such as terrorism and theft is one thing. And yet, with so many workers and so many potential dangers in any work site, health is also of the utmost focus.
