Roy Pumfrey: Hinkley funding a concern over Chinese involvement. The first attempt at HPS back in 1988 failed not because of lack of will, but a lack of money. For the current build HPC has not a penny of British money. HPC is reliant on the French state paying 65% and China 35%. Whitehall sources have admitted that HPC would be jeopardised by plans to block CGN from future projects.

The second-largest power generator in the world, EDF Energy, has commissioned Bilfinger to carry out inspection services for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant, currently under construction in Somerset. Over the course of the next five years, Bilfinger will apply various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to monitor the integrity of safety-critical systems at the power plant. The order, with a volume of more than €20 million (approximately £17 million), will be booked in tranches in the Engineering & Maintenance Europe segment.
