Working from home has led to a significant jump in home heating use over the winter, sparking fears British employees could be left colder and poorer in the long-term unless more is done to retrofit draughty homes. UK households used 14 per cent more heating this winter during weekday working hours compared to the same time last year, according to research by smart thermostat company tado. It follows a dramatic shift to home-working for much of the workforce. The latest ONS figures indicate more than a third of the British workforce is working from home full time during the current lockdown, compared to pre-pandemic levels of around five per cent.
