I wrote recently about the ongoing problems in and around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant ten years on from the meltdowns and explosions that destroyed three of its reactors. One of the issues I highlighted was the growing volume of radioactively contaminated water in the emergency tanks that have been built on site. These are nearly full and yet more water continues to flow through the highly radioactive areas of the dead reactors.

On April 21, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi mentioned about the discharge of Fukushima nuclear wastewater by Japan during his video consultation with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. Wang Yi said that, the Japanese government, without exhausting safe disposal measures, without fully disclosing relevant information, and without discussing with neighboring countries and the international community, made a reckless decision to dump the nuclear wastewater of Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea.
