The construction of six second-generation EPRs, envisaged by the government to renew the aging nuclear fleet, is only a “hypothesis” on which French citizens will have to vote, the minister in charge of ‘energy. “There are no plans to order six new EPRs. This is a hypothesis that is put on the table by EDF but it has absolutely not been decided, ”said Barbara Pompili. “On the other hand, as Minister, what I want is that we can give the choice to citizens since it is they who must decide whether or not we make new EPRs. This decision will arrive in 2022 or 2023 (…) It is democracy which must decide on these subjects ”, underlined the Minister, indicating however that “ in a personal capacity ”she was not favorable to these new EPR.
