Chronicle of the illusions lost in France’s strategy of exporting nuclear reactors, of the EPR or ATMEA type, in the form of a press review for the period 2005-2019. The promise of the export of French-built nuclear reactors has been and remains one of the main arguments of companies in the sector and of public authorities in favor of the pursuit of ambitious programs for the production of nuclear electricity, according to l historic adage “all electric, all nuclear”. At the dawn of the 21st century, when these same promoters proclaimed the imminence of the “nuclear renaissance”, France, political power and companies, launched a vast offensive to promote “French nuclear”, concentrated mainly on the reactor EPR. The first projects, a reactor in Finland and one in France, torn off by the announcement of extraordinary technical and economic performances, accumulated delays and dizzying increase in costs, while the two reactors built in China fared a little better and finished by starting in 2019. Long negotiations finally led to the launch in 2019 of the much contested construction of an EPR in the United Kingdom, built by EDF for EDF.
