After 6 months of debates and meetings, the public debate on the National Plan for the Management of Materials and Radioactive Waste (PNGMDR) will end with a closing meeting on Wednesday 25 September. If the debate ends, the plan is far from complete and many questions remain unanswered. The conclusions of the debate will be issued in November, then the owners (Nuclear Safety Authority and Directorate General of Energy and Climate) will provide their response. The 5th version of this plan will then be written. For France Nature Environnement, which participated in the debate with vigilance, this plan must be intransigent on several key points.

French authorities have doubled the safety radius originally set in 2016 to 20km, around 12 miles, and will soon start distributing the pills to an additional 2.2 million people living near the country’s 19 power plants, including Flamanville in Normandy, 22 miles to the north-east of Jersey.
