Reactor 2 at the Flamanville nuclear power plant restarted on December 12, 2020 after almost 2 years of shutdown. With steam generators (SGs) with cracked tubes and increased risk of rupture of the fuel cladding. To limit leaks from the primary circuit to the secondary, EDF wanted to restart its reactor in a specific way. The Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) has given its approval for this special operation, on condition that EDF implements a whole series of compensatory measures. On January 15, 2021, the management of the EDF nuclear power plant declared that it had not complied with some of these measures. Which consisted precisely in recording and monitoring the radiochemical parameters of the primary circuit.
