The ASN college auditioned, on June 18, 2020, Mr. Lewandowski, director of the nuclear and thermal fleet (DPNT) of EDF . The hearing focused on EDF’s strategy for the storage of spent fuel from its nuclear power plants. ASN identified in 2010 the need for new storage capacity for spent fuel by 2030. This need was confirmed in the 4 th edition of the National Materials Management Plan and radioactive waste (PNGMDR) 2016 -2018, as well as by the analysis of the consistency of the ” nuclear fuel cycle ” over the 2016-2030 period, on which ASN issued its opinion in 2018 . This led the government to prescribe measures to EDF to increase these capacities , in particular the filing of the request for authorization to create a new storage facility, at the latest at the end of 2020.
