On June 15, 2021, the Flamanville nuclear site (Normandy) declared a significant event for the environment. The power plant discovered that there had been a leak on a cooling unit. No less than 141 kg of refrigerants have leaked into the environment. These fluids, when subjected to normal pressure, transform into powerful greenhouse gases. Some have a much greater heating power than CO2. This leak is much higher than the maximum authorized over the whole of 2021, which is 100 kg. And this is the second time this year that this has happened in Flamanville.
