Commissioned in July 1986, the number 2 electricity production unit of the Flamanville nuclear power plant was shut down for its third ten-yearly outage at the end of 2018. This unit outage should have lasted approximately six months to replace or renovate some key parts of the installation. But it was not until the night of December 11 to 12, 23 months later, that electricity production was restarted.
