BP appoints former Statoil boss to breathe life into renewables. BP has hired Helge Lund, the former boss of BG Group and Statoil, to succeed Carl-Henric Svanberg as chairman. The Norwegian, who, at 55, is younger than all the directors on BP’s board, will join the oil major in September and take over as chairman at the start of next year. Mr Lund made his name through a decade in charge of Statoil, the Norwegian national oil company that he ran until 2014, but made his fortune through a brief stint at BG Group.
