Thousands of jobs could be created if plans to install floating offshore wind farms in the Celtic Sea off Cornwall are successful. Steve Jermy, who is the chairman and acting CEO of WaveHub Ltd, gave an update to Cornwall Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday (September 8). Floating offshore wind is a fast-growing sector worldwide and the UK government has committed the UK to reaching 40GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 – enough to power 30,000 homes. Mr Jermy is leading the regional task force created to take forward floating offshore wind in Cornwall, the Great South West and Wales. As a member of the Celtic Sea Cluster, Wave Hub – the sea-powered scheme off Hayle – is playing a vital role in helping to deliver the industrialisation of this new technology.
